Decision of the Gelderland District Court dated April 15, 2021

The petitioner has been dealing with identity theft since around 2019. Other individuals use her personal information on the internet to make expensive purchases and put them in the petitioner’s name.

In the past, she has filed multiple reports about this. One situation involved someone applying for a personal loan in the petitioner’s name, which was rejected by the bank. It’s also common for phone contracts to be opened under her name, as well as online purchases. The petitioner suspects that someone gained access to her personal webpage, which contained a copy of her ID and bank card.

Despite numerous past reports and notifications to authorities and fraud prevention services, identity theft continues. The petitioner has decided to adopt a new name in an attempt to halt the identity theft. She hopes that this change will put an end to the fraud. In her everyday life, she will continue to use her current nickname, but by changing her first name, she believes that identity theft will cease.

The court rules that this constitutes a sufficiently significant reason to change the first name and delivers its verdict in writing. The request is approved.
